Whether you’re only planning on replacing your windows in the new year or are planning a whole home exterior makeover, you should know what the window trends in 2025 are expected to be. That doesn’t mean you have to follow them, but being aware can help you make a better choice. Because of that, we’ve read many articles and spoken with our designer friends about what they’re seeing in new home construction as well as remodeling with regard to windows.
Energy Efficiency is Tops
ENERGY STAR® windows are important to more than 80% of homeowners looking for new windows. However, ENERGY STAR just means that the windows meet the minimal requirements for energy efficiency for the area. If you’ve read our roofing trends article, you likely noticed that energy efficiency is mentioned there and it’s also one of the window trends in 2025.
Window Styles
The leading trend is minimalistic window and door frames. That means picture windows, casement windows and sliding windows continue to grow in popularity. Homeowners who choose single or double hung windows opt for minimal grids or even no grids at all. If you’re planning an exterior remodel, you may want to talk with your window and siding company about decorative windows like transom and arched windows as they are one of the newer window trends in 2025.
Security/Durability
We put these two elements together because the more durable a window, the more secure in almost all cases. If you’re looking at security, ask your window company about the window’s construction (welded frames are more secure) and the hardware lock materials (metal vs. plastic). Some window lines offer a window restrictor which allows them to be open only a few inches. This prevents someone from opening it further and coming in and keeps little people safe inside your home as they can’t open the window far enough to crawl through. Either reason you need it, it’s a great security feature!
Color
When it comes to color and window trends in 2025, we’re still seeing darker colors grow in popularity. However, it’s not just black replacement windows anymore. Although black still ranks high, homeowners are also choosing dark grey and other deep rich colors in addition to black. And, as more manufacturers offer colored windows, we expect this trend to continue.
